On the Streets of Cartagena - 1
I composed this picture in Cartagena de Indias. It shows a nice street inside the colonial walled city, that in 1984 was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was late in the morning and… yes, the strong heat that you probably feel watching the image was real! But this city is so beautiful it makes you forget everything else. Since the colonial neighborhoods were completely restored in the 1990s, the houses and buildings have recovered their magnificent colors, which give the city a very special atmosphere. This town was founded in 1533, and named after Cartagena, Spain. During the colonial period Cartagena served a key role in administration and expansion of the Spanish empire. It was a center of political and economic activity due to the presence of royalty and wealthy viceroys. Today is a Colombian major tourist attraction.
